Portrait Photography Tips - Avoiding Harsh Shadow

Shooting with DSLR camera and external speedlight can give you excellent portrait picture, but you should careful to set your gear to get the best of it or else you will get disturbing harsh shadow on your photos. Here
it is some simple tips for you.

  1. Consider the distance, to avoid shadows on the portrait, make sure your objects are placed one totwo meters or more from the background. Even reflected speedlight sometimes create a shadow in the background.
  2.  Bounce it, bounce the speedlight to the ceiling. It's the easiest way to spread and soften the light produce from the speedlight. The ceiling will bounce and spread the light to entire room, illuminate both the object and the background.
  3. Use diffuser, diffuser can help you to soften the light and spread the light, so it will help you from harsh lighting from your speedlight.
  4. Adjust the speedlight power and zoom, it's good for you to leave the speedlight setting to TTL, without change the flash compensation. Try to change the zoom setting to 50 mm to get effective spread of light.
